I just read a study that finally supports with scientific data what I have been saying for years. When you are emotionally in control you are capable of finding and resolving issues easily and creatively. The University of Minho in Portugal reported that, “ when under stress, regions of the brain associated with executive decision making and goal directed behaviors shrivel, while brain sectors linked to habit formation bloom”.
In other words, when I am under stress I am not creative; I am predisposed to follow old habits, ruts or cow paths. The same is true for my people. I need to communicate and support my people attempts to try new habits and behaviors. When I want my people to work creatively and think entrepreneurially then I need to reduce their fears and stress that people normally relate to failure. Failure is just one more piece of junk that we have moved out of the way of our success.
