Is our environment trying to tell us something? While walking with Susan one morning on one of our familiar routes, for some reason I noticed the road signs: wrong way, intersection ahead, one-way, yield, stop. Like many things in my life, I walked by these signs dozens, if not hundreds of times and never noticed them. As we set out the next morning, I thought about how I might interpret these odd bits of information. I began to think about a new project I was working on that was going nowhere fast; was I heading the wrong way, was there another path I should follow? I decided to delegate that project and it’s now moving much more quickly and heading in the right direction. The intersection ahead sign helped me rethink and reaffirm a recent decision to expand my product lines to include personality testing and products to insure smarter hiring decisions. The “signs” along my path are unique in my own interpretation of them but the same signs are there for all to see. They surround us everyday, if we are open to them.
I am remembering the little girl I saw in an airport once, who helped me see that even the simplest experiences can be magical. You may recall the story about how thrilled she was just to use an escalator. Many people saw this little girl but I wonder how many actually learned something from her. As we use Gratitude and Love to bring us into the present moment, we can begin to “see” with new eyes. Are we behaving “one way” and focusing only on our needs? Do we need to “yield” and let go of stress? Is there a behavior we simply need to “stop”? As we raise our eyes and our awareness we begin to see the signs and they are everywhere.
